Michael Hansen

Chairman of the Board

Born and raised in San Clemente, California, Michael is a life-long surfer, a certified PADI diver, holds a USCG 100-ton masters license and spends almost every day either in the water or on the water. Many would say he the quintessential waterman.

However, this waterman desired more from his daily experience with Mother Ocean, and founded the Gray Whale Foundation in 2009. As he witnessed the decrease in coastal navigating Gray Whales each year and the increasing inability of schools to offer on-the-water educational opportunities for their students, Michael knew he had to step up and form an organization that could address both of these concerning issues.

Michael is a graduate of San Diego State University and the son of Don Hansen, founder and original operator of Dana Wharf Sportfishing and Whale Watching in Dana Point, CA. This incredible father/son team have served on numerous boards and commissions over the past 30 years. This ongoing service to the community and multiple regulatory agencies provides Michael with a well-rounded knowledge and platform for administering the Gray Whale Foundation's mission and purpose.

Corey Hall

Vice Chair

In 1994, at the age of 19, Corey received his USCG 100-ton masters license and began his almost daily journey out into the Pacific Ocean to delight and amaze visitors from around the world by introducing them to the vast amount of marine wildlife teeming just off the coast of California. These daily whale watching and wildlife sighting excursions have taught Corey an incredible respect and appreciation for Earth's finite natural resources.

Corey is currently operations manager for family-owned Dana Wharf Sportfishing and Whale Watching, the first Orange County-based whale watching company, established in 1973 immediately following the opening of the 2500-slip Dana Point Harbor.

A graduate of Pepperdine University with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Management, Corey brings the perfect combination of business acumen and operational knowledge to the Gray Whale Foundation.

Todd Mansur

Treasurer

Todd Mansure was born in Laguna Beach and for the past 32 years has had a career on the ocean.  Through a variety of experiences he has had the opportunity to observe hundreds of different marine species, both fish and mammels.

At the young and impressionable age of 13 he was the only crew member for a 20 passenger operation that fished during the spring, summer, and fall.  During the winter he crewed for a whale watching operation.  This early exposure to Mother Ocean had a huge impact on Todd.  At 19 he actually purchased his own vessel and has continued to work on the ocean and enjoy its bounty in many ways, and in turn has generously shared his up close and personal knowledge with thousands.

In 1992 he became Dana Wharf Whale Watching's lead naturalist and conducts all of the pre-excursion in-classroom education for Orange County's schools.  This is also a major role for Todd with the Gray Whale Foundation.

Todd is a published author on the topic of marine mammels and does pubic speaking engagements on the topic upon request.
